Have you ever looked up the definition of “Time”?

The indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole” – Love, Google

That’s terrifying. Our lives are measured by an indefinite continued progress. No pausing. No forwarding. No rewinding. We are no VHS tape & there is no starting over.

Here it is. Right now. Time – passing by. And you’re reading this? 😉

There was an essay I had to write last year to graduate with my 200RYT Certification (Registered Yoga Teacher). Our teachers gave us the title of “24 Hours“. That was it. We had to take that title and express what it meant to us. Graduation came & we all gathered in a circle to share our essays. There were tears, there was laughter, and there was an awareness like I had never felt before. A pure & loud awareness of TIME. Suddenly, the point of the essay -clicked-. If what we are doing in our last 24 hours isn’t what we are doing everyday, then why?

“The trouble is, your think you have time.”Buddha

We go about our days, the majority of the time looking forward or looking back. The past speaks to us with wisdom of regret, experience, mourning, love, and even anger. We find ourselves thinking back, asking the questions of why, looking for answers, or possibly reminiscing of what life held so dearly at one point in our adolescence or younger years.

Our mind’s eye then switches to what could be. The future holds such wonder & mystery. It’s absolutely fascinating what we can come up with while daydreaming or planning for what’s to come. We maybe imagine our lives in a different career, doing something we are actually passionate about, or sunbathing on the beach on a tropical island. We can find our thoughts wondering to a relationship we yearn for but haven’t found, or a hobby we have always wanted to try, but never reached for.

So our past is behind us – many building blocks carved into a structure of our current & present selves. Our future – in front of us – unknown, untouched & uncertain. So I guess that brings us to…..NOW. This very moment. All of those mind-wandering thoughts of the past & the engrossed creations of the future are not a reality you can hold, but right now is. Are you where you want to be? Because you’re exactly where you should be.

We spend our time trying to impress society with our words, pictures, experiences -talking about “someday” & not now – watching & not doing. We invest a lot of our days going through the motions, but not living. We might ask ourselves, if we are exactly where we’re supposed to be, than why am I here? Because time & life don’t do things TO you, they do things FOR you.

When life presents these challenges or ideas before you, it’s your decision to either pack up your time & begin your journey on the road less traveled OR to take your first step with time on that silky-smooth road you see beside you. Everyday when you wake up, life offers you each road. It’s your choice to take your time through your 9-5 paved road, or to plant your feet firmly on the unknown terrain, among bushes & travel through potential roadblocks to get to your true passion. Time will pass with each. Time will be lost with each. But which avenue will lead you to the best version of YOU?

“Don’t think about what can happen in a month. Don’t think of what can happen in a year. Focus on the 24 hours in front of you & do what you can to get closer to where you want to be.”Eric Thomas

Time is Impermanent

Time has no loyalty. Imagine time as a solar powered energizer bunny. Now imagine that you are strapped to it. It’s solar powered. You’re in Florida. It’s not stopping. So you have a choice. You can either frantically try to untie, unhook, or unleash yourself from this bunny, or, you can take a deep breathrealize that no matter what you do, time is not going to stop & its path will change at the drop of a dime. So when you find yourself in a slight panic from life’s twists & turns of impermanence, can you let go?

“The bad news is – nothing lasts forever.

The good news is – nothing lasts forever.”

– G.O.

Time is a Precious Gift

Your grandmother has told you this quote ever since you were 5 – “Time is a gift – You never know when it might be up.” She almost frightened you with it – making you think that you might only be able to ride your bike one more time! But G-Ma held truth with what she said. We tend to take for granted so many small things that pass us by each day.

My dog for instance, when I come home and I’m cooking, or working, or reading, he will nose-poke me relentlessly until I play with him & when I DO play with him, I will be checking emails, scrolling through Facebook, or talking on the phone. I take my time with this loving animal for granted. One day he will not be there to poke that same bruise on my leg that he created yesterday. Time is a gift.

“The greatest gift you can give someone is your time. Because when you give your time. Because when you give your time, you are giving a portion of your life that you will never get back.” – Rick Warren

Time is Awareness

Awareness of your current surroundingsAwareness of the people you spend your time with – Awareness of you as an ever changing entityAwareness of each thought that flows in and out with or without your consciousness – Awareness of your reactions toward circumstances or others – Awareness of what makes you happy, what creates that fire in your soul – The awareness of the step to the best version of you.

“Once you become consciously aware of just how powerful your thoughts are, you will realize everything in your life is exactly how YOU allow it to be.” – Melanie Moushigian Koulouris

Time is Free

Many will say the opposite. You can perceive your time only as a source/opportunity of income, or can perceive it as a source of endless free possibilities that will lead to an expansion of your present circumstances. The dream- the moment – the life you hold has no value of money. You go about each day with the intention to make money, as important as that is for obvious reasons, you’re not doing what you want to do in hopes to one day buy your freedom. But there lies the most dangerous risk of all. Time is promised to no one. Take it. Run with it. And create your own freedom with a firm base built on your passions, happiness & positive impact. If you do that, not only will you find happiness, but you will find the definition of SUCCESS.

“Time is free, but it’s priceless – You can’t own it, but you can use it – You can’t keep it it, but you can spend it – Once you’ve lost it – you can never get it back.” – Harvey Mackay

Time is Now

Notice it, smile & know that what you’re doing, saying, or acting upon, will take you one step further to whatever the hell you want in life.  Cheers!

“Never allow waiting to become a habit. Live your dreams & take risks. Life is happening NOW.” – Christi Paul
